Enugu - The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Enugu State on Wednesday warned political parties to stop using its name to organise their membership registration.
A statement from the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr Lawrence Azubuike, described the development where parties used INEC's name to organise membership registration as a misrepresentation of activities and deceit.
It said INEC had not yet commenced its continuous voter registration in the state, adding that it would be extensively publicised when it commenced.
“The attention of INEC in the state has been drawn to the activities of some individuals who have deceitfully used the name of the commission to organise the registration of party members for their political parties.
“These people who are believed to be party agents have gone to different places including churches to urge people to register and collect INEC voters’ card in what is clearly their membership registration.
“INEC is yet to commence its continuous voter registration exercise in the state,’’ it said.
“INEC is yet to commence its continuous voter registration exercise in the state,’’ it said.
The statement urged citizens to report such impostors to the commission and security agencies for proper actions.
